Route 66

The band and the People

Route 66 formed in Sydney in the mid 70's. The original line-up was Alan Rigg, John Collins Mark Fairhurst and John Gadsden - shortly to be joined by vocalist, Donna Tuckwell.  Over the years, the lineup changed many times and included many more people. See HERE for an early family tree. The band was basically a "good time, no frills, pub rock & roll outfit"- playing covers with a bluesy feel. Part of route 66's appeal was definitely a close affinity with the supporters - Donna always delivered her raspy vocals with  a glass of booze in one hand - the music was kept simple - the classic two guitars, and bass with drummer Emilio Saerhart (aka Mark Fairhurst) providing an "honest" rhythm. A look at the early songlists reveals 60's classics by the stones, kinks, shadows, animals, them, Janis Joplin, etc, but route 66 also put its own stamp on 70's material by artists such as steely dan, lynard skynard, creedence etc.
